Scaffolding works on Queens Pier, Ramsey
The Ramsey landmark has been closed for years and is currently undergoing restoration by a band of dedicated volunteers.
With corroded iron and rotting timberwork the pier is currently far too dangerous for access by members of the public.
New steel girders have been installed to replace corroded ironwork on the pier’s first bay.
Now the Kinrade Group has been busy putting up the scaffolding ready for work to begin on bays two and three.
The ’Heavy Gang’ are getting on with the task of stripping the old planks off bay two, and will recycle whatever they can.
Uncertainty over British Steel may delay the ordering of the next batch of replacement steel.
Two new flag poles and the clock have been put up on the front of the pier gatehouse.
Volunteers are waiting for the iron grids to be returned from refurbishment before the next work can begin on bay one, with the greenheart beams put in place, along with the new stringers and new planks. The trust hopes to have the new planks on within the next month.
